Error During Configuration Load

I looked in the config file - it's because I have a "kbd2" whose ID is a square character, or a character that isn't recognized.

What do?

Also, I've tried deleting the entry in the XML file, and that works until I close it again. Because it saves on close, it puts the entry in there again, and then I have to manually delete it every time.

Strange, try to rename the keyboard manually - at first tab. Then (on close) this new name should be stored in xml file.
