You can download beta version 2.3
here.
Changes:
- macros sorted in alphabetical order
device list improved
- - number of linked macros is shown
- all macros of one device (keyboard) can be moved to different device
- default naming and numbering improved, you should never "lose device" any more. Even unplugged (not detected) devices are kept in the list with their macros. On re-plug macros are active again or they can be moved to different device. Hot plug is not supported.
button for configuration save. Till now configuration was saved only on program exit = lost on program/system crash
automatic backups. In settings you can choose directory where old configuration files are kept (and how many)
configuration file is stored (and archived) only when changed
Current build number is 2.3.0.667.
Please report bugs to this thread.

Many thanks for this, it fixed the issues with the devices getting forgotten.
However, it doesn't work too well if there is no hidmacros.xml file though (access violation); have to end task from taskmanager to close it in that case. It doesn't work with a blank hidmacros.xml file either, strange error messages. I copied the hidmacros.xml from the old version though and it worked fine since then.
Thanks and Best Regards,
Vent

Same problem here as the previous user and solved it the same way too.
The problem returned when I finally recieved and plugged in my rudder pedals, so now I've lost all my macros again.
Running Win7 64-bit, may it have something to do with win7's cursed ability to make folders read-only?
Hope you'll figure it out, in the meantime I'll revert to the older version.
Thanks for a great program btw, it sure is amazing despite issues like these.

Thx for feedback. In the meantime I got the same experience - using previous xml file there's access violation crash (w7 64b).
I deleted Devices section in xml and it worked fine.
So there's some bug in loaded devices reconnection logic, I'll check soon and upload fixed version.

Bug report!?
I run v2.2.0.578 at my laptop with WinVista OK.
But when I test v2.3.0.676 I get this error: 'Access violation at address 004EDB13 in module 'HIDMacros.exe'. Read of address 00000000.' when I try to save or exit the application.
Before I can program a key and it works in notepad as in v2.2.0.578.

Do you use some existing configuration file (hidmacros.xml in application's dir)?
Could you try the same without existing xml configuration file?

No hidmacros.xml in the folder. Only files and folders from the zip-file. Same error when running in my Win7 computer.
Get the error whan i try to save configuration, exit with the menu button or exit with the X button at the window. I have to use the task manager to kill the exe file! And no hidmacros.xml file is saved.
